How to Upload and Configure Documents

Step-by-step guide to upload and configure documents as a knowledge source for Atri AI Chat.

Configuration Steps

Step 1: Access Document Configuration

Navigate to your project settings and locate the Reference Documents section.

  • Open your AI Chat project dashboard
  • Go to the data sources or configuration section
  • Find the 'Reference Documents' configuration panel

Step 2: Upload Documents

Select and upload your documents from your local file system.

  • Click on 'Local Files' under the Upload New tab
  • Select files from your computer (PDF, DOCX, TXT supported)
  • Maximum file size is 25MB per document
  • You can select multiple files at once

Step 3: Review Pending Documents

Check the uploaded documents before saving them to your project.

  • Review the list of pending documents in the table
  • Check file names, sizes, and types
  • Remove any unwanted documents using the trash icon
  • Verify the total size of all documents

Step 4: Save Documents

Save your documents to start the processing and indexing.

  • Click the 'Save Documents' button at the bottom
  • The system will upload your documents to secure storage
  • Processing will automatically begin after successful upload

Step 5: Monitor Processing Status

Track the progress of document indexing for AI chat integration.

  • Watch for status updates showing 'Indexing documents...'
  • The system processes documents to make them searchable
  • Processing typically takes a few minutes depending on document size and count
  • You'll see a completion message when indexing is finished

Step 6: Verify Configuration

Confirm that your documents have been successfully configured.

  • Switch to the 'Configured' tab to view processed documents
  • Look for the green 'Documents configured' indicator
  • Check document details including character count and chunks
  • The AI chat can now reference your document content in responses

Managing Your Documents

Once configured, you can view and manage your uploaded documents.

View Document Details

  • Go to the 'Configured' tab to see all processed documents
  • View document size, character count, and chunk information
  • Hover over long file names to see the full name in a tooltip

Delete Documents

  • Click the trash icon next to any document you want to remove
  • Confirm the deletion when prompted
  • The system will remove the document from both storage and AI index

  • Supported file formats: PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT
  • Maximum file size: 25MB per document
  • Documents are securely stored and processed
  • Processing time depends on document size and complexity
  • All document content is used exclusively for your AI chat responses
  • You can upload multiple documents to build a comprehensive knowledge base

Troubleshooting

Document upload failed

  • Check that your file is under 25MB in size
  • Ensure the file format is supported (PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT)
  • Verify your internet connection is stable
  • Try uploading one document at a time if multiple uploads fail

Document indexing takes too long

  • Large documents may take several minutes to process
  • Multiple documents will take longer than single documents
  • Check your internet connection
  • Contact support if processing exceeds 30 minutes

Cannot see uploaded documents

  • Switch to the 'Configured' tab to view processed documents
  • Wait for indexing to complete before documents appear
  • Refresh the page if documents don't appear after successful processing
